I have worked at Dorothy Goodman School for many years and am a learning leader within the school.I am a Key Stage 2 teacher, teaching pupils who have a range of needs but mainly moderate learning difficulties and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD). I currently teach at one of Dorothy Goodman’s bases which is located within a local mainstream school. Within my role as learning leader I also advise teachers and staff about all elements of teaching and learning and in particular assessment including using and monitoring the school's tracking system (TOPS). I work with colleagues from local schools in two different local authorities to ensure challenge and moderation are at the heart of the new assessment system. In my teaching I promote independence and autonomy with the pupils and embraces the chance for pupils to learn from their mistakes and practise skills in different situations which is the premise of how the school assesses pupils.
