New Sensory Garden Open

The New Sensory Garden was officially opened on 2nd July 2003 at parents evening. The garden is located at the rear of the school opposite senior 1's classroom.

The garden has been designed so that ALL our children, able bodied or not can make use of it. The footpath that winds it's way round the garden has many different surfaces from smooth paving stone, bumby cobble and crunchy bark, providing different feelings to those on foot and in wheelchairs.

The flowers and plants have been choosen for their scent and texture. The textures will provide smooth, rough and spikey feelings for the children to touch. Also some have been choosen for the rustling sounds they make when moved, either when brushed past or blown by the wind. Some plants have a strong scent that can be smelt from being close to them, others do not release a scent until rubbed.

The garden has been designed to stimulate many of the bodies senses, such as touch and smell and of course sight from its beautiful design to its many colours.

As an extra surprise scatted around the garden are seating areas in which to sit and enjoy the garden and also numerous feely boxes that you can put your hand into to try and work out their content. All together providing the children with ever changing experiences.
