News in Brief

Governor News

We have now filled the Parent Governor vacancy. Mrs. Childerhouse has very kindly agreed to come on to the Governing Body (with no arm-twisting at all!). That means that the only vacancy we currently have is for a Local Authority nominated representative, and so we wait to hear from them.

Mrs. Childerhouse has a son in the Junior part of the school, and has a particular interest in the Arts.

Staffing

Staffing has remained stable this term, with only minor alterations to provide more support staff.

Linda Noble has taken up a 0.5 HLTA post for ICT, in preparation for the new school, and Kate Noon has begun a degree course – so congratulations to both of these.

New School

You can, as I said earlier, see the New School being built now – and in fact the last time I was on the site I actually saw the steps of the Hydrotherapy Pool, which are now in place. Somehow that made it all more real and exciting!

We do not yet know anything about the 14-19 site – I am still waiting for news from the Local Authority.

We do know that the New School, in its entirety (i.e. both sites), will continue to be called “Dorothy Goodman School”. Governors were most insistent on that!

We also know that staff will retain their jobs – so I am sure that will be a relief both to them and to you!

Individual Work Room

Those of you who have been in to school recently will have seen that we no longer have a garage at the front of the school. Instead we have an individual work room for children with autism. It is proving extremely valuable – if you would like to know more about how it works, please ask myself, or Mrs. Elliott in Junior 1.

Donations

Donations received this term include:
£715.00 - Disney Store
£650.00 - Cathy Bars
£500.00 - George Ward Trust
£250.00 - Hinckley Carnival
£223.00 - Burbage Gardening Club
£202.00 - Queen’s Head
£135.00 - The Flintlock
£100.00 - Mr. Stock
£72.00 - S. Neale
£50.00 - Margaret Smith
£42.50 - Holiday Lounge
£35.00 - In Mem E. Taylor

We also had a very successful Quiz Night organise by Dean (our Site Manager). This raised £653.

These amounts are being used towards equipment for the new school – softplay, sensory room items, computers and outdoor play equipment.
