March 2005 News in Brief

Govenors News

New Community Governor this term is Sarah Thackeray, who is also our Connexions Worker looking at post-school placements) – so she will be an excellent addition.

There is currently a Parent Governor vacancy. The nomination forms will be coming out in April, so please think hard about this. You would be joining a successful governing body at a very exciting time in the school’s history.

Spellathon

This happened last Tuesday, and is a national event that we take part in, to raise money both for Mencap and for ourselves. It is to the credit of the students that so many of them do so well, and are able to take the test (in silence!), and spell so many words.

Tsunami Appeal

Thank you to all those who contributed towards this appeal. We collected school items for shoe boxes to be sent out to children in affected areas, and altogether we were able to contribute 21 boxes – which is a fabulous effort! They have now been sent via Radio Leicester.

Reception Class

The class for our younger pupils is having a makeover! The room has been re-decorated, and we have just ordered the first part of a new project, which is to create an area of the room designed particularly for the needs of children with visual impairment. This is an innovative project, and will be extremely useful for many of our pupils. Please contact me if you would like a look.

Donations

Donations received last term include:

Ullesthorpe Golf Club £4003
Tin Hat Pub £1000
Living Rock Church £633
Anchor Inn £500
Market Bosworth Rotary £300
Citizens’ Club £150
Fabrex £120
Mr. Jackson £31

These amounts have been used to fund further computers and laptops, sensory equipment and class-based equipment, and have been put towards a new project which will create an area of Reception Class that is particularly suited to the needs of children with visual impairment.
