Beaumanor Hall Residentials

windy treetree

In October we took two groups of students to stay at Beaumanor Hall near Loughborough – in both cases for an overnight stay. Beaumanor is an old Hall, with a very interesting history. It was used in the Second World War as a base for cracking the Enigma Codes, and in order to disguise this, false buildings were built in the grounds so that German aircraft would think it was just another rural village. Remnants of this disguise can still be seen today.

First of all six of the Junior pupils went, and had a wonderful time – visiting Bradgate Park, the City Farm at Gorse Hill and the East Midlands Airport. The only problem at the airport (for some!) was that we didn’t actually get on an aeroplane and fly off somewhere! This caused considerable disappointment, which we were only able to put right by dinner in the Hall that night.

The Seniors also went to Bradgate Park, and then spent some time exploring the grounds and the Adventure Playground.

Both groups went for a night walk – which is one of the exciting activities to do there because it is much darker at night than in the town, and there are always sightings of rabbits etc., which the children find really interesting.

So – two more successful residentials! We do them because we think that they open up exciting opportunities to our youngsters and give them access to a wider education, and we certainly hope to continue with them.
