Consultation on proposed increase of pupil numbers

Good news! We now have the full funding for our new secondary building. Works on the Barwell Lane site in Hinckley will be starting very soon. The new building will have 9 classrooms, various specialist rooms, sports hall and plenty of outside space for sports and other outdoor activities. Please refer to the plans for the new building on our website: http://www.dorothygoodman.co.uk/our-new-build/ .  When the building is complete we will be able accommodate all our secondary aged pupils who are not on satellite bases within the new building allowing the Stoke Road premises to be primary aged pupils only. This is a great development for the school.

As you are aware Dorothy Goodman School is a very popular school with a high demand for places. In response to this need we are consulting about increasing our numbers. In order to do this we have to submit an application for approval from the Department for Education via the Regional Schools Commissioner.

Since our academy conversion in 2012 we have developed the school premises significantly to accommodate additional places. With the replacement of the upper site on Middlefield Lane this would enable us to further develop our provision, for example to provide access to specialist rooms for vocational learning and increasing the provision of a life skills based curriculum.

We will be seeking an increase in stages. Initially adding another class from our current number of 258 to 270 and  on completion of the new building adding two more classes so that  the total number of places for pupils is 290 across all our sites.  We have considered this carefully and looked at the capacity within our sites to reflect an increase of one class in the next academic year and we, along with the Governing Body, are confident that we can continue to provide the highest level of education at this capacity.

As you are aware Dorothy Goodman is rated outstanding and has an excellent reputation both locally and within the wider area and we continually strive to improve facilities and resources, meeting the needs of our pupils and their families.

A formal consultation period in respect of this proposal will be held for four weeks commencing on 19th April 2017 until 3.30pm on 17th May 2017.
