Carer's Allowance

On 1st April 2003, the Invalid Care Allowance (ICA) changed its name to the Carer's Allowance. This new name shifts the focus of the benefit's name from the disabled person to the carer, thereby emphasining that the benefit is for the CARER, not the disabled person. This is hoped to increase the recognition and awareness of the significance of the carers' role. It will also remove the negative connotations now associated with the word "Invalid".

Carers on ICA do not need to make another claim. They should have received a letter already to inform them of the changes and things will continue as normal.

Carer Allowance claim forms can be obtained from the Disabilities Benefits Department on 01253 856123 or textphone 01772 899489.

Whizz-Kidz

A national charity that changes the lives of disabled children and young people in the UK through the provision of customised mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and tricycles.

It is also dedicated to providing help and advice to the children and their families and raising awareness of mobility-related issues through national campaigning.

Whizz-Kidz has a very simple and tangible goal - to give disabled children and young people independent mobility. All the charity's equipment is 'made to measure' so each child's application is personally assessed by one of Whizz-kidz experienced national network of professional Mobility Therapists. The equipment provided by Whizz-Kidz is unavailble from the NHS.

If you would like to contact Whizz-Kidz regarding an application for equipment please contact kidzservices@whizz-kidz.org.uk or call 020 7233 6600 and ask to speak to Children's Services Provision Administrator.
